Manager Emergency Response & Preparedness

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and monitor the Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) LLC NAFTA Distribution Emergency Preparedness and Response and Transportation and Distribution Security activities. Additionally this position is responsible for emergency response and security in distribution for Bayer Corporation, Bayer CropScience LLP, and Bayer Healthcare LLC through service level agreements.

The incumbent will:

  • Provide immediate response to all distribution emergency calls involving accidents or breaches of security for Bayer (over 50% will be outside of normal work hours);
  • Be responsible for the development, implementation, and training associated with distribution emergency response and security procedures to compliance associated with emergency response activities;
  • Coordinate remediation activities with federal, state, and local authorities;
  • Manage distribution related incidents and accidents and security branches for all modes of transportation, bulk terminals, and warehouses;
  • Assure proper level of response is provided to all transportation and distribution related emergencies including direct management and/or oversight of all contract or Bayer response teams activated to provide assistance during the emergencies;
  • Monitor, track, and report vendor performance associated with safety compliance activities;
  • Maintain a historical database wherein detailed reports of all accidents and incidents, including team response reports are maintained. Additionally, will be r responsible for monitoring and evaluating the data for the purpose of identifying trends and making timely notification to the Head of Transportation and Distribution Safety with recommendations to prevent repetitive occurrences;
  • Assure BMS LLC procedures are consistent with the American Chemistry Council-Responsible Care Distribution Code of Management Practices;
  • Provide support and documentation to Corporate Legal and outside counsel in defending BMS LLC in issues involving safe and legal distribution of materials;
  • Participate in industry work groups associated with emergency response and transportation security.
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
  • BS/BA degree (e.g. Safety, Logistics or other related area);
  • Ten years of experience in international and domestic distribution safety regulatory requirements, logistics, manufacturing or a related field; Experience should include five years of emergency response management experience within distribution activities;
  • Adept at Supplier Relationship Management principles, including driving category management and continuous improvement;
  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills applicable to reporting required for incident investigations involving emergency response of consultation;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage and communicate with stakeholders at all levels within the organization;
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and quantitative skills with a particular sensitivity to compliance and supply chain activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to personally lead others to take calculated risks, prioritize, organize, deal with ambiguity, manage conflict and initiate corrective actions;
  • Adept at driving category management and continuous improvement with suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification or root cause investigation training;
  • Knowledge of transportation equipment, operating procedures, and Bayer materials involved in distribution.
