Field Inspector Mechanical, Pittsburgh PA
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Responsible for inspection of assigned railroad and private freight car maintenance facilities for compliance with AAR and FRA requirements, including AAR Interchange Rules; AAR Manual of Standards & Recommended Practices; directives from AAR Committees; Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Railroad Freight Car Safety Standards; FRA Power Brakes and Drawbar Laws; and FRA Safety Appliance Standards. Incumbent will require skills to perform AAR Quality Assurance audits, Mechanical Repair Inspections, Wheel Shop Inspections, M-214 Truck Side Frame/Bolster Inspections, Rule 88 Car Rebuild Inspections, Roller Bearing Mounting Inspections and Airbrake Shop Inspections at member railroad and private repair facilities. Please note, the nature of this positions makes extensive travel necessary, 40-43 weeks per year) in order to meet our customer requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Freight car repair/inspection credentials and a minimum of seven (7) years experience in inspection/repair of freight cars and/or locomotives.
Applicant must be familiar with freight car repair and car shop operations and be able to perform process and product audits of these facilities in accordance with AAR procedures.
Incumbent must be able to attain AAR Quality Assurance accreditation within six (6) months and perform Quality Assurance Audits under AAR Specification M-1003, Section J.
Must be fully committed to safety, customer satisfaction and continuous quality improvement, with demonstrated history of performing duties in a safe manner. Must be willing to travel extensively in the United States, Canada, Mexico and other international destinations to meet customer requirements.
Self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to manage workload with minimal direct supervision.
Effective and positive communication skills (verbal & written).
Must be proficient in MS Word, database management and electronic transmission of documents.
Valid driver's license is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS IN ADDITION TO MINIMUM:
In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the following qualifications are preferred.
Associates or Bachelors Degree in a technical or management field.
Current AAR Quality Assurance auditor accreditation.
Extensive experience in wheel shop operations and the quality processes.
Supervisory experience as foreman or plant manager.
Working knowledge of air brake shops, open top loading rules, intermodal operations, locomotive rebuilders, freight car rebuilders (Rule 88), and reconditioning of freight car components (M-212, M-214, M-300, etc). Instructor qualified in any of the above technical areas.
Minimum Salary: $65,189.00
