Global Dangerous Goods Transportation Compliance Manager

Life Technologies is a world class leader in the development and manufacture of chemical and biological reagents for the biotechnology marketplace. We are seeking a Global Manager of our International Dangerous Goods Transportation Compliance program. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership and strategic ability to set direction of all compliance activities associated with the international transport of dangerous goods. This position supports the global compliance strategy that seeks to:

(1) Ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements for preparing and offering dangerous goods (aka hazardous material) for transport.

(2) Direct team of compliance specialists in daily responsibilities in maintenance of existing products, new product introduction, systems management, and project management.

(3) Improve operational efficiencies in packaging and documentation compliance processes related to preparing dangerous goods for transport.

(4) Provide vertical and lateral management of all product information related to dangerous goods transport and communication to Life Technologies and 3rd party distribution centers.

(5) Develop and enhance training and quality programs related to transportation of dangerous goods

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance Leadership: Ensure compliance with all applicable international regulatory requirements for transport of dangerous goods. The incumbent is expected to stay abreast of all applicable hazardous material regulations and interpretations impacting the company’s transportation processes. Effectively take a leadership position representing the company’s interest in regards to pending regulations and carrier interpretations.

Process Management: Manage Life Technologies’ global systems for recognition, packaging, marking/labeling, and providing supporting documentation for transport of dangerous goods. This role is supported by global Packaging Engineering, IT, EHS/Product Stewardship and Trade Compliance teams. The incumbent is expected to develop a high level communication network with these teams and for management of all product support systems related to transportation of dangerous goods. Project management and leadership will be expected in this role in addition to maintaining all metrics and key performance indicators to track performance related to dangerous goods transportation.

Training and Audit Management: Implement and maintain an effective global training program for transportation of dangerous goods incorporating all Life Technologies hazmat employees. Management of a comprehensive audit program for primary and third party distribution centers, along with oversight of all CAPA is required. Participate in external audits when feasible and take ownership of corrective and preventative actions as they pertain. Develop and implement in-line QC testing of packaging labeling/marking and documentation.

Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Represent the business in all corporate M&A activities

• Liaise with global hazard communications team to assist in new product introduction and process reviews

• Work with global Packaging Engineering to ensure appropriate packaging is designed and tested to meet product and regulatory requirements, including international variances.

• Participate in the implementation of Design-for-Environment initiatives on packaging reduction initiatives.

• Standardize / Harmonize Dangerous Goods Transportation instructions at all primary distribution sites.

• When applicable, assist in development and maintenance of site Security Plans.

• Work with senior Distribution and Logistics management to establish best practices for transport of Dangerous Goods at all sites.

• Conduct effective personnel reviews and ongoing G&O management

Education and experience requirements: B.S. Degree (or higher) with 5+ years logistics management experience in support of dangerous goods transportation. Travel requirement (30%)

Desired Profile:

• Ability to influence others without direct authority and report up to all levels within the organization

• Strong organizational skills and adherence to informational systems and processes

• Demonstrated competency with various software applications, including (but not limited to) standard Microsoft Office applications, large ERP systems as well as stand alone global transportation and logistics solutions

• Capable manager of multiple concurrent projects
